On Tuesday, November 29th, the Wisconsin Pork Association kicked off the 2022 “Give-a-Ham” Challenge with WPA President, Christina Meylor, donating a ham to the Lafayette County Food Pantry.
Give-a-Ham is a national social media campaign that encourages pig farmers and industry members to donate pork products to local food pantries, and challenging others to do the same.
Food and nutrition insecurity is at an all-time high, and pork is a nutrient-dense protein that satisfies many tastes and cultural preferences. As the gap continues to widen between the farm and the fork, there is an opportunity to share the story of people involved in pig farming while also supporting our friends and neighbors in need, which is a perfect example of one of the We Care Ethical Principles of Responsible Pork Production.
To participate in the Challenge:
1. Purchase a ham or other pork product
2. Donate it to your local food pantry and take a picture of you doing so.
2. Post your photo to social media and include the hashtag #GiveaHam and #WiPork. In your social media post, be sure to name/ tag a person you challenge to donate as well.
Don’t have social media? No problem! Send your picture and the name of someone you challenge to wppa@wppa.org and we can post it for you!
If you have any questions, please email wppa@wppa.org or call 608-723-7551.
