Wisconsin Pork Association has four committees that help the Board of Directors implement programs of the organization. Getting involved with these committees gives members the opportunity to network, incorporate new programs and strategies within WPA, problem solve, promote the swine industry, and take advantage of educational opportunities.
Questions or interested in joining a committee? Please contact our office at 608-723-7551 or wppa@wppa.org.
The Promotion and Events Committee helps coordinate programs, activities, and events to share information about pork products and pig farming in Wisconsin. Members of the committee mainly focus their efforts on the Pork Schoppe, grilling and pork promotion events, and teacher and health professional outreach/education.
The Producer Outreach Committee handles the decisions and execution of many producer programs including SHIP, SIP, Pork Cares Sustainability, and more. This group helps coordinate producer education programs, membership efforts, legislative events, and works to address any producer concerns or questions.
The Youth Committee focuses on providing resources and programs to encourage youth interest and engagement in the swine industry. Members of the committee handle youth scholarships, develop and oversee youth activities and event opportunities, and help make decisions regarding the internship program and other youth opportunities.
Members of the Swine Health Committee review health trends and current or potential disease threats to pigs in the state and monitors and develops programs to enhance swine health. The committee communicates with producers on swine health issues and works closely with veterinarians in the state, DATCP, and National Pork Board swine veterinarians to monitor and evaluate resources and trends pertaining to swine health.
